Delta Force Chroma Matrix: How to Get the Death Box
You logged in, saw a free Dart sitting in the store, threw it, and got a Charm. Then you did the same thing the next day. Somewhere in there you started wondering whether the Chroma Matrix was ever actually obtainable for free, or whether the word "free" was doing a lot of quiet work. It was doing a lot of work. Here is exactly how the draw functions, what the seven-refresh rule really unlocks, and the reset that has cost players the skin.
What the Chroma Matrix actually is
The Chroma Matrix is an Elimination Case appearance. It reskins the container that drops when you take someone down in Operations, so the box your victim's squad walks up to is a chromed, iridescent object instead of the default crate. You will see plenty of them on high-traffic maps like AZ3 Nuclear Plant.
Officially it is written as the Chroma Elimination Case [Chroma Matrix], with the collection name in brackets. That is worth knowing because almost nobody searches for it that way. Across community clips you will see it called the death box skin, the deathbox, the kill crate, the loot box skin, and the elimination box. All of these point at the same item.
A note on framing: several creator videos describe this as the game's first Elimination Case appearance. That claim does not appear in any official patch note we could find, so treat it as community characterisation rather than confirmed fact. What is confirmed is that it is a distinct cosmetic category from the weapon and operator appearances that make up most of the store, which is why it does not behave like the skins covered in our best loadouts breakdown.
The Chroma Matrix reskins the container Operations leaves behind after every elimination.
Where to find it in the menus
The draw sits behind three menu layers: Store, then Top Pick, then Store Mystery Supply. The format is a dartboard lucky draw rather than the production or research systems used by most appearance events.
The menu path is identical on the Garena and global builds. The official Garena update post and the global announcement list the same entry point and the same dates, so there is no regional split to work around here. That is not always true of Delta Force events, and it is worth checking against our Garena version explainer if you play on that client and see something different.
How the free Dart draw works
Every day of the event, logging in gives you one free Dart for the dartboard draw at no cost. Darts reset daily, so you cannot bank six of them over a week and then throw them all at once.
The prize pool holds the Chroma Elimination Case alongside a set of limited Tactical Charms, which attach to the guns in our all weapons reference. Both the grand prize and the Charms are non-repeating, which means once you have won a given item it stops appearing as a possible outcome. That is genuinely player-friendly, because it stops the pool diluting with duplicates the way the Mandelbrick system does.
Where it gets less friendly is the actual probability. The official post describes the chance of winning the Chroma Elimination Case outright as extremely low. That is Team Jade's own wording, not a community estimate, and it should set your expectations accordingly.
The seven-refresh unlock, and what it does not do
The event includes a guaranteed unlock path: refresh the board seven times in total and you unlock purchase eligibility for the Chroma Elimination Case.
Read that phrase carefully, because it is the single most misread line in the announcement. Seven refreshes do not give you the skin. They give you the right to buy the skin. If you complete the refreshes and then decline to spend, you finish with nothing but whatever the darts landed on.
This is a structure Delta Force uses often, and it is not unique to this event. The distinction between a guaranteed unlock and a guaranteed item is the thing to check on every store event before you commit currency to it.
The daily reset that costs people the skin
Here is the part that catches players, and the part no other guide has written down clearly.
Both the rewards and the purchase eligibility you earn are valid only for that day. They reset automatically the next day.
So if you refresh seven times, unlock the purchase option, decide to think about it overnight, and come back tomorrow, your eligibility is gone. You start the refresh count again from zero. The official post spells this out under a limited-time reminder, but it sits at the bottom of a long update page that most players skim, and the in-game presentation does not make it loud.
If you are going to chase this, do the refreshes and the purchase in a single session. There is no partial progress to carry forward.
One free Dart a day is the whole guarantee. The grand prize is a separate roll.
The dates, and what took its place
Store Mystery Supply ran from August 8 to August 21. That window closes at the end of August 21, which means at the time of writing there is roughly one day left on it.
We can also confirm what replaced it. The August 20 update post put the Desmoulins' Edge Theme Return Lucky Draw into the store from August 21 through September 19, occupying the Top Pick slot the Chroma Matrix draw had been sitting in. That is a straight handover, not an overlap.
For context on the wider event these draws sit inside, Fortune Run itself runs to September 7 and is where most of the genuinely free rewards live.
Is the Chroma Matrix worth chasing?
Two honest reasons for caution.
The first is a visibility question that nobody seems to be asking. Community reports going back to early in the game's life hold that operator appearances render only to your own squad in Operations, and not to enemies, with players pointing to skin descriptions that say as much. We have not found an official statement covering whether Elimination Cases follow that same rule. If they do, the skin's whole pitch, which is that your victim sees something striking on the way out, does not hold up. Treat this as an open question rather than a settled one, but treat it as a reason to hesitate before spending.
The second is opportunity cost. The same August 6 update that launched this draw also handed out 2,600 Limited-Time Delta Tickets, the QJB201 National Elegance firearm appearance, and the Smart Pioneer vehicle appearance series, all for free through event missions. Those are guaranteed. The Chroma Matrix is not.
If your goal is to make your Operations runs look and feel better, the honest answer is that your extraction rate does more for that than a container skin does. Players who consistently get out with their loot build a stash that funds every cosmetic they actually want, and that starts with winning the fights you choose to take using the guns in our best PvP weapons list. If your survival rate is what is holding you back, our coaching sessions work on exactly that, and our leveling guide covers the free version of the same ground.
Delta Tickets, a firearm appearance, and vehicle skins made up the guaranteed side of Fortune Run.
Will the Chroma Matrix come back?
There is no official announcement of a rerun, and we will not pretend otherwise.
What we can say is that the store calendar shows a clear pattern. Across a single month, the store ran the Shiba Feichai Appearance Return Lucky Draw, the Sea Gleam Appearance Return Draw rerun, and the Desmoulins' Edge Theme Return Lucky Draw. The word "return" appears in the title of most store events, and reruns are closer to the norm than the exception.
That is a pattern, not a promise. A returning appearance draw is not the same thing as a returning Elimination Case, and this cosmetic category has far less precedent behind it. If it does come back, expect it to arrive as a Return Lucky Draw with the same daily-reset structure attached.
Store, Top Pick, Store Mystery Supply: the three taps that lead to the Chroma Matrix draw.
Key takeaways
The Chroma Matrix is an Elimination Case appearance, officially the Chroma Elimination Case [Chroma Matrix], which reskins the container left behind after a kill in Operations.
Find it at Store, then Top Pick, then Store Mystery Supply. The path is the same on Garena and global clients.
You get one free Dart per day. Darts reset daily and cannot be saved up.
The developer states the odds of winning it outright are very low, so plan around the guaranteed path instead.
Seven refreshes unlock purchase eligibility, not the skin itself.
Eligibility expires at the end of each day, so complete the refreshes and the purchase in one session.
The draw ran August 8 to August 21 and was replaced by the Desmoulins' Edge draw from August 21.
Whether enemies can even see Elimination Case skins in Operations is unconfirmed, which weakens the case for spending on it.
FAQ
Is the Delta Force Chroma Matrix free?
Partly. The daily Dart that gives you a chance at it costs nothing, and the developer confirms there is a small chance of winning it outright. But the official wording puts that chance very low, and the guaranteed path unlocks the option to purchase rather than the item itself.
What is an Elimination Case in Delta Force?
It is the container that appears when a player is eliminated in Operations, holding the gear they were carrying. An Elimination Case appearance is a cosmetic that changes how that container looks. It is a separate category from weapon and operator appearances.
Can I still get the Chroma Matrix?
The Store Mystery Supply event ran August 8 to August 21. Once that window closed the draw was replaced in the store by the Desmoulins' Edge Theme Return Lucky Draw. There is no announced way to obtain it outside the original event.
Does the Chroma Matrix work in Warfare?
No. Elimination Cases are an Operations mechanic, since Warfare does not use the loot container system. The skin has no application in Warfare matches, which is worth weighing if you spend most of your time in the modes covered in our Season 10 Meltdown hub.
How many refreshes do I need for the guaranteed unlock?
Seven refreshes in total. That unlocks purchase eligibility for the Chroma Elimination Case. It does not award the item, and the eligibility resets the following day if unused.
Does it cost Delta Coins or Delta Tickets?
The Store Mystery Supply draw sits in the premium store, and comparable draws in the same store section accept either Delta Coins or Delta Tickets. The official post does not state a fixed price for the purchase-eligibility unlock, so we are not going to invent one.
Is the Chroma Matrix available on console?
The global publisher announced this draw on its own channels, and the global build covers PS5 and Xbox Series X|S alongside PC, so console players were in scope. Note that the detailed Garena patch notes cover PC and mobile only, so they are not the right reference point for console questions. Our console guide covers platform-specific differences in more detail.
What are the limited Tactical Charms in the pool?
They are weapon charms included in the same non-repeating prize pool as the grand prize. Like the Elimination Case, once you win a specific Charm it stops appearing as a possible result from future darts.
Does the Chroma Matrix carry across cross-progression?
Cosmetics tied to your account follow your LIPASS binding the same way the rest of your inventory does. If you play the same account across PC and mobile, anything you unlock should be present on both.
What is the difference between the Chroma Matrix and the Golden Matrix?
They share a naming convention and nothing else. Golden Matrix is a firearm appearance collection covering multiple weapons. The Chroma Matrix is a single Elimination Case appearance. Different item categories, different events, no connection beyond the word.
Where do I find the Chroma Matrix in the store?
Store, then Top Pick, then Store Mystery Supply. If the entry is not visible, the event window has closed. Items in that section rotate weekly and the slot is reused by whatever draw is currently running.
